How to Stay Ahead of AI as a Content Creator
4 strategies to beat AI-generated content (not SEO)
I’m writing this as a reminder to myself.
It is getting harder and harder to stand out with all the AI-generated content around.
Did you see this?
“She” got over 100k followers quickly with photos of her at Wimbledon.
And make no mistake, the amount and quality of AI content will only increase exponentially from here.
So what the hell are content creators supposed to do to compete with AI?
We might as well quit if we can’t figure it out. I’m serious.
I’m convinced that the only way to compete with AI is to do things that AI can’t do.
Network
You need to reach out and partner with other writers, YouTubers, or whatever space you are in.
You need a group of people who support your work. Sometimes they comment on it or share it. Sometimes they recommend it to their audience.
This will give your work the initial boost it needs before it gets buried in the massive pile of digital crap that is being uploaded the moment you click “post”.
Don’t go around contacting everyone to network with. Think strategically and only reach out to people where a real win-win exists.
AI can’t network, and this is a big advantage.
Instead of focusing on the latest SEO tip, think about WHO you can reach out to and HOW you can suggest a win-win.
Maybe you can promote each other’s newsletters. Maybe you can interview them and post that.
AI can help you develop a strategy for this. But do it.
Insight
When you edit your own article or video, make sure you notice a few sentences that stand out.
Are you saying anything at all that is new?
Is there a sentence or two that makes people stop and think?
Words are essentially free now.
You need a fresh insight or perspective.
I remember when you could easily collect emails by offering a “free ebook”.
There is so much content now that it would almost be a miracle if you could get someone to read more than a few pages of your book.
Personality/Experience
Bland is over.
Share your personality and life experiences.
AI has neither of these.
Even if it gets better at faking a good personality, it will never have life experience.
I’ll go first.
I shared this story recently, but even with over 7200 Medium followers, I’m now having a hard time getting more than 200 views per article on Medium.
Less than a year ago, I was getting about 3000–5000 views per article (or more)
I’m noticing this on YouTube as well.
AI can’t share an experience like that.
So when you publish something, think of some relevant personal experience that you can weave into it.
A good way to think of it is that you should make less “fact-based” content and more opinion/personal experience-based content.
Own your Audience
I learned the hard way with the poor reach my Medium articles are getting.
I thought I was building an audience. But those 7200 people have somehow vanished.
AI isn’t just creating the content; it's controlling the algorithms too.
I recently wrote this post about Medium vs Substack.
Although Substack is better because it lets you collect email addresses, there are still huge risks associated with it.
Any content creator needs to build their own email list on the side.
I personally use and recommend Beehiiv (great free plan to start).
I have thousands of people who subscribe to my free AI newsletter.
No matter what happens with any algorithm, I’ll always have this list to reach out to.

Love your work, as always, a solid perspective on how doubling down on human networking and our own flavorful personality, could be our only way out.
But I am genuinely shocked, when's someone like you with 800 something followers, has only 3 likes. Damn! Are the times tough, or this is how it is?
