How “Computer Use” is a game-changer for AI

Claude just introduced something that feels like the future of AI.

Claude’s new “computer use” feature is like a real AI agent.

This “computer use” feature allows Claude to take over your computer and perform tasks for you.

Note: I put all 3 of Claude’s demo videos towards the bottom of this article.

If you ask Claude to do something, it will actually do it.

For example, if you ask ChatGPT to make a schedule for you and put it in your Google calendar, it won’t work. Yes, it will make the schedule, but it won’t be able to access the calendar to put it in there for you.

Claude’s new feature can do that.

Claude can take over your mouse, and go clicking around the internet. 

For example, imagine if you needed to fill out a form on your computer. Now imagine that many of the fields in the form had information stored in different documents all over your hard drive. 

You might have tax information in a spreadsheet somewhere. 

You might have your child’s student ID number in some other document.

Now you can ask Claude to fill out this form for you. Claude will access your mouse, and start opening up different documents on your computer. It will keep searching your computer until it finds all of the information you need. Then it will enter all of this information into the form.

You could even ask Claude to send the form via email to someone. 

The point is, Claude does the work, it doesn't just give you instructions on how to do it.

This is a game-changer for the AI industry.

People who are able to use this well will be able to 10x their productivity.

This will also put pressure on many secretarial or administration-type jobs.

We are at the very beginning of these agents. You can expect that Google and OpenAI will be releasing their own agents soon.

These will keep getting better — quickly.
