ChatGPT 4o with Canvas — SECRETS that 99% of People Don’t Know
How to get the most out of ChatGPT-4o Canvas
OpenAI just released ChatGPT 4o with a new feature called “Canvas”.
Canvas is awesome!
I’ve been playing around with it all morning and I am loving it.
Canvas will be a huge productivity booster.
I’m going to show you how it works and how to use it.
I also just made a video about Canvas here.

What is Canvas?
Canvas is a workspace that automatically opens up when you prompt ChatGPT (you must first select GPT-4o with Canvas from the top menu)
Canvas opens up in a new workspace which is similar to Google Docs, or Microsoft Word.
Instead of just getting an answer from ChatGPT, you now get a first draft in a document format.
Then you can edit parts of the document by highlighting them. You can also edit ChatGPT’s answer yourself, right inside the window.
Before Canvas, a huge problem with ChatGPT was that if you wanted to edit parts of a response, you would need to ask ChatGPT to redo the entire thing!
Now you can keep making small improvements to a response.
Canvas is also like a word processor because you can change the font size, add H1, H2 tags, add emojis 😊, add bold, italics, etc.
Canvas Short Cut Editing Tools
Canvas includes shortcuts that help you edit and improve your work
Suggest Edits:
You can highlight text, and Canvas will suggest ways to improve it.
Adjust Length:
You can make your content shorter or longer with a simple slider.
Add Final Polish:
This helps fix grammar and make your writing clearer.
Change Reading Level:
There is a slider that lets ChatGPT make the work sound more like a graduate student, or more like a grade 8 student (and anything in between).
Emojis for Emphasis:
Add emojis to make your content more fun and relatable
Note: I find they add WAY too many emojis. If you want to add some, you can just ask Canvas to add in a few emojis. If you click the “add emoji” shortcut, you will be overwhelmed with them!

Canvas for Coding
So far I’ve talked about using Canvas for writing.
But it is also great for coding.
Canvas makes coding a lot easier. It helps you write, debug, and improve code faster by letting you:
Add Logs: Automatically add print statements for debugging.
Port Your Code: Easily convert code between languages.
Fix Bugs: Get explanations and fixes for problematic code.
Add comments: Learn what the code is doing.
ChatGPT is great for writing code. But it still often makes small mistakes somewhere in the code.
It is so much better to have this code open up in a workspace so that you can get ChatGPT to slowly improve parts of the code — instead of having it rewrite the entire code from scratch each time.
Every time you ask ChatGPT to re-write the code from scratch, a different part of it won’t work. That is why this window is so much better.
Why Most People Are Missing Out
Most users see Canvas pop up and ignore it.
Big mistake!
The real power lies in using Canvas as a collaborative partner, where you and ChatGPT co-create something amazing.
Instead of being stuck with one answer from ChatGPT, you now work on an answer together. You can ask ChatGPT to improve it bit by bit — or you can just write your own parts into one of its answers.
Canvas is like working on a whiteboard together.
